Animal Overload!

It's no secret I'm one of those animal loving hippies. Today I got to indulge that, thanks to Margo (my wife). We started the day volunteering at Heartland Farm Sanctuary in Verona, Wisconsin. Margo has volunteered there before, but it was my first day. The animals were shockingly friendly to people (I've never had a cow "attack" me looking for petting, but it happened!). After that, we went to the free (but awesome) Madison Zoo. What a day!

Margo petting the very friendly goat!

Margo hanging out with the new arrivals, April and Maude.

It's surprisingly hard to get a goat to look at you when you want it too.

I'm glad I'm a vegetarian some days.

'Pink Slime' Will Be a Choice for Schools - Yahoo! News:

"The low-grade trimmings come from the parts of the cow most susceptible to contamination, often close to the hide, which is highly exposed to fecal matter. But because the treatment of the trimmings - simmering them in low heat, separating fat and tissue using a centrifuge and spraying them with ammonia gas to kill germs - the United States Department of Agriculture says it's safe to eat."

Studying

I was very excited (yes, really) to have a few extras hours to study today. Why did this have to happen?

Walking

Since it was so nice today, I decided to walk from my Internship to school. It was a beautiful day for Wisconsin in March - almost 70 degrees. The walk was on a trail by the lake and was very enjoyable. The one thing I forgot to account for, though, was the weight of my books.

As if I needed another reason to loathe this textbook:

I can't really complain, here is the view during the walk (image isn't mine):

It never hurts...

..to ask.

Sunday, Sunday

It's Sunday again. I'm not sure why, but I really don't like Sundays. I always feel like I'm missing out on something or that I should have done something differently.

Oh well, hopefully I get a lot done today.

This month

What a crazy month - it makes for quite a to do list:

  • March 30th: Rough Draft of Memo
  • March 17th: MPRE Exam
  • March 21st: Class presentation on Tax Treaties
  • Wisconsin Tax Return
  • Class readings and review
  • Job applications

Yes!

Yes, the ones lying down come with post-its!
For some reason, getting new highlighters makes me really happy. Getting them as a gift in the mail just made it all the sweeter.

Fracturing Political Parties

I just read an article on CNN by Zakaria, and I found it fascinating. I guess I never really considered how Americans might respond to ideas more to the left or right. I think Americans might have had their political lens redefined because of the realities of a two-party system. Any outside ideas get marginalized, and the slight differences between the two parties becomes magnified.

I wonder if that viewpoint will be forcibly changed anytime soon.

A new blog

I'm not sure if this blog is just for me or if I will eventually show it off to other people. At one point, I was happily blogging on spinfreerambling, but I lost interest. I can't seem to get it off the ground, so instead I'll try this.
